Aapravasi Ghat, Mauritius: where it all began for my ancestors!

Presenting the Aapravasi Ghat in Mauritius – the place where indentured labourers first stepped on the island.

I feel very much connected to that place because my ancestors were among. When I look at the list of names there, some of them ring a bell while others sound very close to my family name. When I read about all the hardship they went through, those who died and those who made it – gives me the chills thinking about that again!

It is a museum now with bits and pieces left by our ancestors – the snaps below can give an idea. However, for me – it’s more than that. Much much more than that!
